The Belfast crochet club helping police deal with traumatised kids

A West Belfast crochet circle has done its bit to help children traumatised by crime.

The Caffrey Crochet Circle, based at Clanmil’s Caffrey Hill development off the Glen Road , has knitted ‘trauma teddies’ that police use to help young people they come across in difficult situations.

The teddies will be used by officers in the west of the city. In a Facebook post on their West Belfast page, Constable Greene thanked the “talented knitters from the Caffrey Crochet Circle” who “have been busy knitting Trauma Teddies for police in Belfast”.

The officer added: “The ‘Trauma Teddies’ are designed to distract little ones or vulnerable adults from crimes or incidents they have witnessed. This could include anything from road crashes to domestic violence or simply getting lost.

“We’re delighted with the generosity of everyone involved in the Caffrey Crochet Circle who have given their time to knit Trauma Teddies. Their efforts will be put to good use providing comfort to children and vulnerable people when they need it most.

“These Teddies have now been distributed and will be available in police stations and vehicles across west Belfast, giving us the opportunity to provide a little comfort in what may be a difficult or upsetting situation.
