The beauty spot in Wales said to be home to magical fairies

A beauty spot that offers a tranquil walk in nature in Wales is said to be home to magical beings.

Described as “one of the most enchanting places in the world”, Fairy Glen is a hidden gorge a 50 minute walk from Betws-y-Coed.

Here the River Conwy flows downstream in a tumble of waterfalls to create an eerie but magical spot.

There is a fairly steep walk down some uneven and often slippery steps because of the natural rock formation, so visitors are urged to use caution, especially those with young children.

It is worth it though as the view at the bottom is stunning.

If you would prefer to stay at the top, there is a circular walk around the river looking down to the gorge taking around an hour.

You are welcome to take a picnic and sit on a bench by the riverside during your visit and dogs are also welcome but should be kept on a lead because of the rapids.

There are also rock pools where you can swim.

The aptly named gorge is believed by some to be home to mythical sprites. The myth is borne from alleged sightings, fairy rings and storybook Fly Agaric mushrooms.

Fairy rings are believed to be marked by dark rings of grass in sheltered wooded or forested areas. According to folklore, they were marked by fairies to show the position of their underground kingdoms. A magical adventure surely awaits.

The Welsh word for fairies is Tylwyth Teg which translates in English to “fair folk”, because in folklore they were said to give gifts to humans who showed them kindness, but tricked any who angered them.

There is a small parking fee of £1 and entrance fee also of £1 per person which goes towards the upkeep of the privately owned land.
