The Bears’ trade for Nick Foles looks awful after Mitch Trubisky lands starting QB job

Mitchell Trubisky was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL last season, which led the Bears to spend valuable draft capital to bring in former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles as a potential No. 1 QB option.

In March, the Bears sent a compensatory fourth-round pick to the Jaguars for Foles, and will owe Foles $24 million over the next three seasons. It was a deal that looked bad at the time – and looks even worse now that Foles won’t be the starter. Alternatively, the Bears could have just signed Cam Newton for less money while giving up zero picks – and if Newton is successful with the Patriots, that choice could be difficult to live down for GM Ryan Pace.

Football analysts were roasting the Bears front office after the news dropped.
