The bears that cheered up residents for 100 days

Lockdown bears have retired after about 100 days of entertaining Prestwick residents.

The teddies have appeared in Marlene Gimson’s garden every morning without fail.

The gran, 67, and her family invented antics to keep the cuddly toys busy every day.

Children flocked to St Cuthbert’s Road to see what they were up to.

Their pastimes included ballet, baking, fishing, school and cleaning the windows to name just a few.

But the end of June marked their final appearance with Marlene leaving out treats for young fans.

Marlene said: “The bears have now retired. We had a lovely party. Lots of kids came over to have their picture taken with the bears.

The grandmother of five described the community's reaction to Harvey, Holly, Bailey and Buddy as “amazing.”

The former Kingcase Primary cook has been inundated with with cards, flowers and other gifts from people saying thank you.

She said husband Kenny was key in helping her come up with enough ideas to give the bears different activities every day.

But their fame continues with one of them due to take up a role at Kingcase Primary to entertain pupils.

They are also an online sensation with Marlene posting pictures of the bears on social media group Prestwick Just Saying.
