The Bears’ odds of landing Russell Wilson just got better

One of the biggest stories this offseason has been the status of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who has been mentioned as a potential option — albeit it not a realistic one — at quarterback for the Chicago Bears.

Wilson named the Bears, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys as the four teams he would agree to be traded to — should that become a reality.

Well, Wilson’s shortlist just got shorter.

On Monday, the Cowboys signed quarterback Dak Prescott to a four-year, $160 million deal, which effectively takes them out of the running of the Wilson sweepstakes.

Which leaves the Bears, Saints and Raiders as the final three teams in the running.

It all comes down to whether or not the Seahawks are willing to trade Wilson, which they insist they aren’t. Although, they have been fielding calls from other teams.

It’s hard to deny how much Chicago has been linked to Wilson over the last couple of weeks outside of them being mentioned in regards to the four teams. Reports about Wilson wanting to turn around the Bears’ historic franchise and Wilson liking the Bears’ emerging offensive line, Matt Nagy and the Chicago market have made it hard to ignore.

With Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace’s jobs dependent on then success of this team in 2021, it’s not a big surprise to hear that they’re arguably the most desperate team in search of a quarterback this offseason.

The one thing that has become clear this offseason is that if Wilson is traded, it would most likely be the Bears that manage to land him.
