The Beano celebrates 70 years of Dennis The Menace with special Joe Sugg issue

One of Britain's most iconic characters is to celebrate his 70th anniversary this week with a special edition of the comic that made him famous.

The Beano will mark seven decades since Dennis The Menace first appeared with a guest-editing spot from Youtube star Joe Sugg.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star will even appear in a special strip, Birthday Prankaggeddon, which sees him team up with Dennis to play a series of pranks on the residents of Beanotown.

Also making an appearance will be Joe's girlfriend and Strictly Come Dancing dancer Dianne Buswell and Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood.

Dedicated to the 70 years since the character first made his debut on March 17, 1951, it will also feature a pull-out Menace Family Tree poster will also trace Dennis’s heritage, celebrating the many generations of Dennises who have entertained children over the last 70 years.

Mike Stirling, editorial director of Beano Studios, stated they were delighted to be celebrating 70 years of "Britain's favourite 10-year-old!", he said "For 70 years, the Menace family has been spreading laughs and unique Beano cheer across multiple generations of children and adults alike.

"It's fantastic to see the impact today's Dennis has on kids, just like his dad and grandad did before him for readers in the fifties-eighties.

"We believe that everyone has a little bit of the Dennis spirit within them, so this March 17, on his birthday, we're encouraging everyone to be more Dennis for one day to see how many laughs and smiles you can spread."

Long-time Dennis artist Nigel Parkinson has also created a bespoke illustration from showing changes to the character's appearance over the decades.
