Swansea City attempted to sign Alphonso Davies for just £3m in 2017, according to reports.
The left-back is currently one of the world's most exciting young talents having shone for Bayern Munich since joining the German giants last summer.
However, The Sun claim the Swans led the race to sign him three years ago.
The Canadian was plying his trade for Vancouver Whitecaps, then managed by former Wales international Carl Robinson.
It's said that the 52-cap Welshman recommended Davies to Swansea, however a Premier League - with Crystal Palace also among those interested - move collapsed due to work permit issues.
The reports states the Ghana-born 19-year-old "was a Liberian citizen who gained a Canadian passport".
Davies recently demonstrated his lightning pace by clocking a top speed of 35.3 km/h during his side's vital 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.
The left-back - who moved to Germany for £10m plus add-ons - has scored three goals in his debut campaign in the Bundesliga, with two of those strikes coming in his last three matches.
