The Bay series 2 ending sees major question left unanswered over Med's murder

Frustrated viewers were left wondering the same thing on Wednesday night as The Bay series 2 came to an end with one major question left unanswered...who killed Med and what were they trying to cover up?

After series 1 pulled in audiences of upwards of 7 million a few years ago, the second run of the hit ITV drama has reached similar highs, meaning anticipation was high for its sixth and final part this week.

The whole series had been available to view on itvHub since January but for those who resisted temptation to binge it in one go there was plenty to eat up from The Bay’s final episode as we finally got to find out who was responsible for businessman Stephen Marshbrook's death at his front door.

*SPOILER ALERT* - A huge twist started to unravel at the half way point when, after admitting stealing from her dead husband Stephen’s business, Rose Marshbrook confessed to having an affair with scrap yard dealer and her daughter’s boss Frank Mercer.

While it was ‘the man with the tattoo’ Viktor Zima who pulled the trigger it was Frank who paid him to carry out the killing.

The sixth and final part ended with central character Lisa Armstrong at home with her two kids in what proved to be lead actress Morven Christie's final scenes as last week ITV confirmed she wouldn't be back for The Bay series 3.

But one thing that was still a complete mystery as the credits rolled on series 2 was who killed Med and why?

The no nonsense detective was killed off in harrowing fashion at the end of episode 3 when he was hit by a car and then run over as the unknown murderer then reversed his car to finish the job.

Before his death, Med was trying to get to the bottom of suspicions that the Marshbrook family business, Breakwater Developments, was corrupt and a front for something more sinister.

But, while investigations into that were alluded to by Lisa in the final episode, we never got to find out if Med's suspicions were correct or who was responsible for his death.

Reacting to the final episode, one tweeted: "What a series, great Cast but very disappointing ending, who killed Med?" and a second commented: "absolutely loved The Bay but who killed Med is that series 3?"
