The battle to sign Matty Longstaff on loan has already started with League Two clubs queuing up for his signature

Newcastle United are set to receive a host of loan bids for Matty Longstaff this summer.

The midfielder has had a solid season in the Under-23s for United but is ready to head out on loan in search of regular senior action.

The Magpies knocked back loan offers from Bury and Falkirk in January, however, the club are now keen for the Academy product to follow in the footsteps of his older brother Sean.

Bradford City are the team leading the charge for Longstaff with former Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer - who oversaw Sean's loan successful stint at Bloomfield Road - keen on a season long loan next term.

Bowyer watched on from the stands at Goodison Park for last night's Premier League Cup final against Everton but he's not alone when it comes to interest in the battling midfielder.

Indeed, Swindon Town have also watched the youngster in recent times and will be prepared to offer him some first team action next term in League Two.

United's second string have had an excellent campaign by reaching two finals, with the play-off showpiece to come before the end of term, and Longstaff said recently: "I don't think people expected us to do so well. We have a few older players in there, such as Owen Bailey.

"He is one of the senior members in the group now when, last year, he was one of the younger players."
