The Batman starring Robert Pattinson has been pushed back a year, and will be now released in 2022.

The latest film about the Caped Crusader, directed by Matt Reeves, is one of a number of blockbusters to be delayed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

It was scheduled for release on 1 October 2021, but has been pushed back to 4 March 2022.

The film was previously forced to halt production after a person on set – widely reported to be Pattinson himself – tested positive for coronavirus. Filming resumed in September.

Warner Bros has also delayed a number of other films, including The Flash and Shazam 2.

Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic Dune, starring Timothée Chalamet, has been moved to 1 October 2021.

The news comes after Cineworld confirmed that it will temporarily close its theatres across the US and the UK.

Forty-five thousand employees will be out of work due to the closures, including 5,500 staff in the UK and 20,000 in the US, plus cleaners, security workers and other contractors. Staff were informed on Sunday 4 October.

The Cineworld announcement was made shortly after James Bond film No Time to Die, one of the most anticipated films of the year, was delayed to 2 April 2022.

The beleaguered production will mark Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007.
