Elijah Moshinsky directs the 18th century opera that took young Gioachino Rossini just 13 days to write. Two hundred years after it premiered in Rome, Rossini’s opera has become known as a comedy masterpiece.
A wealthy man and a pretty woman fall head over heels in love. However, she is inconveniently betrothed. They need a plan, so they call for Figaro, the friendly neighbourhood barber whose wit and tricks are sharp. He arranges to unite the young lovers in an evening of disguises and duplicity.
