The Banshees of Inisherin cast 'may have taken large pay cut' for Oscar nominated film

It was a historic day for Ireland after the country earned a record 14 Oscar nominations this year for The Banshees of Inisherin and An Cailín Ciúin.

A whopping nine of the nominations were for The Banshees of Inisherin alone, starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, and Barry Keoghan. Farrell is up for the Best Actor awards with Keoghan and Gleeson being nominated for their supporting roles in the film.

However, it will come as a surprise to fans to hear that the actors may have taken a large pay cut to work with director Martin McDonagh. The three stars, Farrell, Gleeson, and Keoghan were paid the exact same amount for the film.

In other words, the trio was each paid $3million from the film’s estimated $20million budget to star in the movie, RSVP Live reports. An insider told The Irish Sun: “It’s not massive money when you consider 20 years ago Colin was getting $5million per movie for Minority Report and Hart’s War and a reported $10million for Alexander.

“Colin, Brendan, and Barry could even have taken pay cuts because they wanted to work with such a gifted writer and director. Talent is the most expensive thing to secure, and the actors were worth every cent on this movie.

"Banshees is the hottest film in Hollywood right now, with nine Oscar nominations. It’s not a sci-fi film with lots of special effects, or wowing crowds with digital trickery, it’s set on an island off the Irish coast.

“The success of the film is down to the acting talent of its stars. Their agents will now be able to secure them the best deals for upcoming movies.”
