The Bachelor: What happened to Colton’s cut proposal scene?

Colton Underwood’s dramatic season of The Bachelor concluded on Tuesday night, but instead of closing with the traditional proposal, the season finale ended with Colton and Cassie Randolph…. agreeing to date.

Colton sent home the only two remaining women during his fantasy suite trip to Portugal, and spent the finale trying to convince Cassie to return to the show and continue their relationship. She agreed, and the couple took a trip to Mallorca, where she met his thoroughly unconvinced family. After spending the night together in a fantasy suite in Spain, the show cut to Colton and Cassie’s first public appearance as a couple in front of a studio audience.

The ending felt rushed and anticlimactic, and it left many Bachelor fans wondering what happened to the proposal scene ABC filmed. Midway through each season of the Bachelor, the show teases the events of the final few episodes with an extended “This season on The Bachelor” trailer. In Colton’s preview, he was shown in a breathtaking courtyard fumbling staring at a ring box.

“I’m excited, I’m nervous, because today is the biggest day of my life.”

Colton and Cassie confirmed in the finale that while they’re “super in love,” they aren’t planning to rush into an engagement, and don’t plan to move in together immediately. That leaves us with a few big questions:

  1. Did ABC set up a fake proposal scene to try and fool viewers?
  2. Was there a ring inside the box?
  3. Did this happen in Spain during his final trip with Cassie. If so, how did he explain this to Cassie? “I’ll be back in an hour, have to go propose to you.”
