The Ayrshire hill hamlet set to become new village

A new village is forming in the hills of East Ayrshire.

Hayhill will dwarf its bigger neighbour Sinclairston by the time it is super-sized.

For decades all that was there were 14 semi-detached cottages - chiefly lived in by farm workers - across the road from a farmhouse.

And a small post box, eight lampposts, a bus stop with shelter and a playpark boasting four swings and a caterpillar climbing frame.

Then a local developer - based in the farmhouse known as Hayhill - won planning permission for 20 semi-detached villas.

The pastoral beauty of the spot about four miles uphill from Drongan ensured all were snapped up.

Now the builder Hayhill Developments has just applied for permission to construct more homes on the adjacent land.

East Ayrshire Council is currently considering the application.

The original farm semis can be seen to the left of the picture at the top.

The development would give the village another 21 homes and 48 parking spaces on a 2.9 acre site.

It would link directly within the existing homes, which are now in a street called Bryden Way. The picture below shows the original homes on the right, and the newly-built estate on the right.

In the latest application there are seven villas and 14 semis of one and two storeys, all with two and three bedrooms .

Ayr-based LMA Architects planned the earlier Hayhill development and the access street would serve the new homes.

LMA said: “This application is the second development that the applicant has made for the land of the former Hayhill House.

“Planning Consent in Principle was approved for the application site via successful appeal to the Council’s Local Review Board.

“Once complete it will provide a cohesive double-sided development off the B7046 .”
