The 'awkward moment' Jamie Roberts' pass to Bath team-mate goes embarrassingly wrong

He's a double Grand Slam winner, a Lions man of the series and has played in a Rugby World Cup semi-final.

But it's fair to say in his 94 Welsh caps spanning nine years, centre Jamie Roberts wasn't recognised on the world stage for his passing prowess.

He deals in making the hard yards ball carrying and became a pivotal figure in Wales' success under former coach Warren Gatland for his famed 'Warrenball' tactics.

His 6ft 4in frame also cuts an imposing figure in defence with the medical doctor never afraid to put his body on the line.

But his passing and lacking of awareness of team-mates around him, has seen the Bath centre taking pelters from former Welsh team-mates in the wake of their 16-14 Gallagher Premiership win over Sale Sharks at The Rec on Saturday.

Because Roberts posted footage of himself during the game being put into space and opening up a try-scoring opportunity before flinging a pass out to the left-hand wing.

Roberts thought it was a Bath team-mate haring up on the flank only to discover it was the assistant referee.

"That awkward moment when you think you’ve put your teammate away then realise it’s the bloody touch judge belting it down the wing," Roberts wrote on Twitter.

"Atmosphere was immense at the Rec yesterday. Thanks to all the Bath supporters. Gritty result versus Sale for us to finish 2019 with a W."

Roberts' former Welsh team-mates couldn't resist responding to the 2009 Lions player of the series.

"That's one of your better passes," said former Lions and Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips.

Ex-Wales centre Tom Shanklin added: "Lovely ball if the AR (assistant referee) keeps running."
