The award-winning Fig Tree restaurant on Penarth seafront is being replaced by a coffee shop

The site of the former Fig Tree restaurant on Penarth seafront will soon be reopening to serve customers once again.

Welsh coffee chain, Coffi Co, will take over the location on The Esplanade, which has views over the Bristol Channel.

It will be the company's sixth coffee shop location as it has cafes around Cardiff and Porthcawl.

According to Coffi Co's Facebook, they are aiming to open the Penarth location by Easter and will serve coffees and hot chocolates as well as a range of snacks and meals.

The Fig Tree closed its doors in the middle of September , 2019, after 10 years of serving award-winning food and local Welsh produce in Penarth.

Mike Caplan-Hill and Sandie Guppy relocated to Spain. The couple's hard work saw The Fig Tree named best restaurant in Wales at the Wales True Taste Awards and named in The Good Food Guide.
