The Aussie reaction to Celtic and Ange Postecoglou's title as Dermot Desmond served Premier League warning

Mark Bosnich believes Ange Postecoglou could manage one of the big hitters in the English Premier League.

And he has urged Celtic chief Dermot Desmond to insert a big buyout clause into a long-term contract to try to stop it from happening.

The former Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa keeper worked alongside Postecoglou as a TV pundit in Australia.

He was convinced he’d be a success at Celtic and was delighted when the Aussie secured a Premiership title win in his first season.

Bosnich says he’s capable of coaching at the highest level and wants the Hoops board to tie him down NOW.

He said: “Ange could manage one of the big clubs in England, there’s no doubt about that.

“I don’t want to disrespect Celtic because they are a massive club as well.

“But if I were Celtic, I’d be making Ange a long-term offer now – and I’d be putting a big buy-out clause in it.

“So if the worst comes to the worst, at least they’d benefit financially.

“The guy has done what he was brought in to do.

“If I was Desmond and the board, I’d sit him down, reward him, get him on a long contract and include that buy-out clause – because it might come to that.

“This thing with Ange has the ability to go quite far if he’s given the chance to do so. It’s the start of something that could snowball for Celtic.

Celtic have to tie him down now.”

Celtic will be in the Champions League group stage next season after winning the Premiership and Bosnich insists the manager will be
determined to put his stamp on Europe’s biggest competition.

After seeing tiny Villarreal reach the semi-finals this season, he feels Postecoglou will want to emulate legendary Hoops gaffer Jock Stein by reaching the latter stages.

He said: “There’s a statue outside Celtic Park of Stein because of what he did in 1967.

“That’s what Ange will be aiming for. A lot of people will doubt that –like they did at the start of this season – and say, ‘But we’re in Pot 4 in the Champions League’.

“Look at Villarreal this season. You never know.

“With Ange’s style of playing, if he gets the players right, it can be relentless and not easy to play against.

“I’ve seen him do it now with different teams at different levels.

“I know Celtic fans won’t want to hear it but I hope Rangers beat Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League Final and Scotland get two teams in the Champions League groups. That would be amazing.”
