The Aubameyang moment that cost Arsenal top four, the north London derby and St Totteringham Day

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has enjoyed one of the best first full seasons for a striker in the Premier League.

With 22 goals to his name, he ended the 2018/19 campaign as the co-winner of the Golden Boot with Liverpool forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Alongside Alexandre Lacazette, the former Borussia Dortmund star has covered for a multitude of problems with his proficiency up front.

Every word Arsenal boss Unai Emery just said on Mkhitaryan, Europa League final and Joe Willock

Unai Emery is a head coach with plenty to work on at Arsenal this summer but with two lethal finishers up front he can at least rely on goals to help his cause.

However, one fan made the argument after full-time on the final day of the season that Aubameyang's status as the focal point of their attack also meant that one of his misses may have cost him and his team a lot more than a single win.

In March, the Gunners faced their bitter north London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, in the Premier League.

At Wembley Stadium, Spurs were able to hang on and take a point in a 1-1 draw that Aubameyang could have had wrapped up for the visitors.

The Gabonese forward had the chance to score the winner in injury time as the referee awarded his side a penalty. Unfortunately, he failed to make the most of it.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shares Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane

By leaving the score at 1-1, Aubameyang ultimately left two extra points on the pitch that could have done much to change the Premier League table.

An extra two points would have seen Arsenal finish on 72 points, one more than Spurs.

It would have also handed the Gunners another victory in their second win of the season in the north London derby in the Premier League to complete a famous double over their foes.

That would have also sent them into the top four, to secure a Champions League qualification place, with Mane and Salah left behind as runners up with 22 goals to 23 for Aubameyang, making him the outright winner of the Golden Boot.

What happens with the Golden Boot if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ends level with Mohamed Salah?

Yet rather than using this sliding doors moment as a stick with which to beat the striker, it is an unhappy missed opportunity that sums up how reliant Arsenal are on their chief goalscorer.

It will be up to Emery and a new recruitment team, lead by former midfielder turned Technical Director, Edu, to make sure Aubameyang has the supporting cast to add to his qualities as a finisher next season.
