The attacking trend Leeds United must buck this weekend

Leeds United have had more chances this season than last year at the same stage - but have still scored less goals overall, worrying stats show.

The Whites have been in a serious rut in recent months, with just eight points from their last eight games delivering repeated blows to their promotion hopes.

Having looked like they would abolish the ghosts of last term in the autumn, a seasonal slump has been carried over into 2020 with damning results for Marcelo Bielsa and his side.

And it doesn't get any easier for them with three games against play-off rivals in a row, in the shape of Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Bristol City.

United would probably do best to avoid the statsitical breakdown of how they stack up against last season too - because it doesn't make for pretty reading.

Twitter analytical whiz LUFCDATA has broken down just what Leeds have done in attack so far compared to Bielsa's first season, and it's less than heartening news.

Not only are United down on points - two behind their total a year ago - they have also missed more big chances, with 53 fluffed opportunities compared to 35 last term.

They have created more chances on the whole, with an uptick in shots and on-target efforts too - yet they have also scored four less goals, with 46 compared to 50.

That works out at a conversion rate of 9.3 per cent, down on 10.5 from the start of February 2019.

If there is any silver lining, it's that United's defence is doing a stronger job too, having conceded only 27 goals - seven down on their previous figure.

In addition, they've faced less shots and chances in total - plus Kiko Casilla has improved his save percentage to boot, from just over 66 per cent to just under 70 per cent.

Still, United have problems up front - and they need to iron them out sooner rather than later if they hope to avoid promotion heartbreak once again.
