Arsenal fans will be intrigued by the latest comments from Atletico Madrid as they offer an insight into the future of Thomas Partey.
The Gunners have been chasing the Ghana international midfielder for months ever since it broke in April that his father had explained the two clubs had been in talks.
Partey is rated as one of the best holding midfielders in Europe but Arsenal must pay £45 million to land his services as that's the release clause in the player's current contract.
Now Atletico CEO Gil Marin has explained his side's financial situation in comments which could be perceived as a boost for the Gunners.
Marin said, per reports: "We are only allowed to spend no more than 25% of player sales revenues to sign new players.
"The idea is to make 3 to 4 changes maximum, and if a player exercises his buy-out clause then he should be replaced."
Partey himself has previously talked about his desire to play in the Premier League to put Arsenal on red alert.
"At the moment, I am happy at my club," Partey told ESPN, speaking last summer.
"But in football, you never know when and where you'll be in the next day or year.
"The Premier League is a good league, it's very competitive and has some of the best players in the world. Hopefully, one day. I would like to play there.
"My agents are on it so I will leave everything for them. For me, I am happy playing football and I will continue to play where I am now until something comes up for consideration."
