The Atletico Madrid £36m swap deal proposal that would be bad news for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta

Arsenal transfer rumours are beginning to heat up with less than a month of the season left to play.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has been one of the hot topics ahead of the summer window as his future is set to have an impact on a number of clubs - including the Gunners and Serie A outfit Napoli.

All signs are pointing towards the Ghana international leaving the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the coming months, with the red half of north London a possible destination.

Mikel Arteta on Thomas Partey and transfer plans

In fact, Spanish football expert Graham Hunter has recently made a claim to excite Gunners supporters.

Speaking on a bet365 video, Hunter, who is renowned for his knowledge of transfer activity involving Spanish clubs, said: "They [Arsenal] need to add quality.

"If I was to look around that squad, immediately I would buy Luka Jovic from Real Madrid, I would buy Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid, and Partey is ready to come to Arsenal."

However, the latest reports coming out of Spain suggest that Atletico have been trying to engineer a swap deal involving Partey that would be bad news for Arsenal and head coach Mikel Arteta.

AS claim that Atletico are keen on signing striker Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli and are considering using the 27-year-old as part of a deal as Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis won't accept offers of less than 40 million euros (£36m).

In addition, the report states that Partey could be a replacement for Allan who continues to be linked with a move away from the Stadio San Paolo.

With that said, it's not all bad news for the Gunners as a potential Partey to Napoli transfer is reportedly complicated because of wage demands.

It's claimed that Arsenal would be willing to triple his current salary, an offer that the Serie A side could struggle to match.

Ahead of his side's Premier League clash away at Wolves, Arteta refused to confirm or deny his interest in Partey but did outline his transfer plans.

"I cannot talk about any interest of players that play for a team that is not ours, sorry," Arteta said.

"I have a very clear plan and specificities of the players, positions and squad balance that we need to compete with the rest of the top teams in the country."
