The Athletic predicts Zach Wilson traded to Minnesota

It’s a matter of when, not if, quarterback Zach Wilson will be traded by the New York Jets this offseason. The question is where does the former No. 2 overall pick end up? A team like Buffalo had been speculated, but that window is likely closed now that the Bills brought back Mitch Trubisky to back up Josh Allen.

So where could Wilson end up? How about the Minnesota Vikings? That’s where Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic predicts he will go in his list of quarterback predictions for this offseason.

The Vikings are likely losing Kirk Cousins in free agency — Rosenblatt predicts he will join the Falcons — and will need to fill the quarterback room after having four quarterbacks in 2023. Rosenblatt writes “Wilson is on his way out in New York but in the right environment, with the right coaching, he still has the talent to, at worst, be a high-end backup. Minnesota is a good fit.”

What makes his full predictions even more interesting is that Wilson is paired with the quarterback he replaced in 2021 in this hypothetical scenario, Sam Darnold. Rosenblatt notes that Minnesota’s top target likely would be Baker Mayfield if they lose Cousins, but Mayfield is seen as likely to remain in Tampa Bay. So Darnold and Wilson could be potential pivot points for Minnesota, who do still have Jaren Hall coming off his rookie season.
