The Athletic predicts the Chargers land former Seahawks LB K.J. Wright, retain Darius Philon.

Sheil Kapadia predicted where each of the top 50 free agents will land. It’s The Athletic, so you will need a subscription. Kapadia does great work. This was very in-depth. Let’s stick to who the Chargers signed.

First off, the team retains Darius Philon. Here’s what Sheil said about the defensive tackle:

Smart teams keep their young, talented players. Philon started 13 games last year, producing four sacks, seven tackles for loss and nine quarterback hits. The Chargers should make an effort to hold on to him.

Philon is a perfect defensive tackle that can be disruptive up the middle and give you quality snaps in the NFL. The former day three prospect continues to get better. Philon isn’t a top tier starter. He is a quality depth piece that can contribute. So it’s smart to bring him back.

The splash signing for the Chargers may be K.J. Wright. Here’s what was said about the LB:

Their window for winning a Super Bowl is now. Wright knows L.A.’s scheme from his time with defensive coordinator Gus Bradley in Seattle. He’s a high-character veteran who can give an already strong defense a boost.

Wright has that Super Bowl experience. He’s one of the top coverage linebackers available. He also has very good athleticism. The issue with Wright is staying healthy. That might scare teams away. With the Gus Bradley connection, this fit makes plenty of sense.
