Every year, I swear we see the same thing happen to Michigan State safeties. They are consistently underrated, and I honestly have no clue why that happens. Montae Nicholson and Khari Willis were both 4th round picks and Nicholson is already a strong NFL player and Willis is on his way. Make sure you click on the links I tagged with them because they both made big plays for their NFL teams this week. David Dowell is the next in a long line of MSU safeties to be underrated, as The Athletic just ranked him as the #17 senior safety in the country.
At #17 in the list, The Athletic would seem to presume that David Dowell won’t be drafted. We’ll see. I think he’s going to have an excellent year. Of course, his brother Andrew Dowell went undrafted after a strong senior season as well, so who even knows.
