Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has been valued at more than three times the transfer fee for which Harry Maguire was sold.
Maguire moved to Manchester United from Leicester City for £80million during the summer.
The deal surpassed van Dijk’s £76m fee when he was signed by Jurgen Klopp from Southampton in 2018.
Maguire and van Dijk came up against each other on Sunday during a dramatic 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
But former Holland and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart believes his countryman is head and shoulders above the England centre-back as he aimed a barb at Maguire.
Van der Vaart told Ziggo Sport: "He (Maguire) can do something, but if he is worth so much money, Virgil van Dijk is worth £300m.
"If I am going to play with the amateurs on Sunday afternoon, I can easily find three who can do this. I mean that seriously.
"A bit silly to say, but I really think so.
“And I remember we were saying, ‘Harry Maguire was by far the worst player on the pitch’.
“And then two months later, £80-£90m? Unbelievable."
