The ASOS Made in Kenya collection has the feel-good factor

Each season ASOS’s Made in Kenya collection, now in its ninth year, brings a fresh pop of colour to our habitual ASOS scrolling.

The summer 2018 collection just dropped on the site, and it’s brimming with every brightly-coloured, geometric, fruity and floral print your spring wardrobe could possibly need.

They've also given the collection a fresh spin this season by inviting a group of young creatives to collaborate in the design process.

Brother and sister blogger duo Velma Rossa and Oliver Asike 2manysiblings and Beats 1 Radio presenter Julie Adenuga joined model Leomie Anderson to envision sunshine yellow jumpsuits, abstract Hawaiian shirts and geometric-print kimonos.

We are particularly loving this abstract print, one-shouldered dress which taps into the season's 80s trend.

But it’s not just the jazzy prints and sunny hues that’ll give you the feel-good factor.

Since they launched the first Made in Kenya collection back in 2010, ASOS has worked with social enterprise SOKO Kenya to construct the clothes in Kenyan factories that provide fairly paid, safe employment and training for some of the poorest members of the local community.

Not only does the initiative create job opportunities in a disadvantaged area of the region but ASOS also provide on-going practical support and employee training to help develop the SOKO Kenya team and, in the eight years, since launch, SOKO Kenya has grown from four to over 50 employees.

ASOS also established a stitching academy in partnership with SOKO, to equip locals with the sewing skills to start businesses and get jobs. They also have educational initiatives on personal and feminine hygiene in schools in the pipeline.

The collection numbers 30 items in total (some have dropped now, with more to come in August) and it includes a selection of menswear for the first time.
