The Arsenal star who would 'finish players off in the tunnel' fans would love to have back now

Former Premier League defender Rio Ferdinand has spoken about the effect that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry used to have on opposition players, even before a ball had been kicked.

Henry is known as one of the all time greats of the Premier League after scoring 176 goals and providing 77 assists in 258 appearances in the league for Arsenal.

Speaking via his Instagram account, Ferdinand offered an insight as to what it was like facing the French striker.

“Thierry Henry, what’s it like playing against him? It was hard, you knew you had to be coming on point, there wasn't any messing about.”

English football suspended until at least April 30 due to coronavirus pandemic

Ferdinand also talked about the effect that the forward’s presence had on his fellow players in the tunnel.

“Thierry Henry I know, I used to watch on TV or I’d look in the tunnel when I was in there and some players I would see him thinking ‘woah, it’s Thierry Henry’. It was that effect he had on people, there’s only a handful of players who I’ve seen had that effect,” he added.

“He was one of them, I’ve seen some players shrink in the tunnel.

“When I watch a game on TV and I see the tunnel I’m thinking before the game has even started or before that man’s head even hit the pillow last night, Thierry was in his brain, Thierry had finished him off. They’re some big players as well, big players.”

Henry is currently manager at MLS side Montreal impact.
