The Arsenal morning headlines as Jimenez tipped for summer move, Mari debut verdict, injury blow

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Tuesday, 3rd March.

Torreira injury blow

Arsenal suffered a significant injury concern at Fratton Park, as Lucas Torreira left the field on a stretcher in the first-half following a strong tackle.

The Uruguay international was pictured leaving Portsmouth's stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot, although it may have been a precaution.

Torreira did not attend hospital after picking up the injury and a scan to discover the full extent of the problem is likely to take place at some point today after the squad's return to north London.

Mikel Arteta on the 'very special' FA Cup

After the match, Arteta said: "Yeah he was very sore, he’s in a brace at the moment.

"We'll need to get him assessed in the next few days and we will know more."

Pablo Mari debut verdict

Mikel Arteta and David Luiz have hailed Pablo Mari's first-team debut for Arsenal.

"I think he looked comfortable," Arteta said, speaking to Arsenal.com after the game.

"He is very vocal and very comfortable on the ball, always commanding the back four and he looked like he’s played here for months. I think we have a good player."

Furthermore, Luiz heaped praise on his central defensive partner for the night.

"It’s great, these kind of things we have to learn," he told the official club website. "I think we did great tonight, everybody was 100 per cent focused and we didn’t concede.

"I’m so happy for Pablo, he’s a great guy, a great player and he had an amazing game so we are here to help each other and we are here, 25 players, ready to play, ready to play for Arsenal and ready to give the best job."

Raul Jimenez to Arsenal?

Arsenal have been urged by pundit Craig Burley to sell Alexandre Lacazette and replace him with Wolves striker Raul Jimenez.

"What will Raul Jimenez give you? Experience but still at a good age, runs the channels, physical in the air, works hard when he’s not got the ball and scores goals," he said on ESPN . "Bare in mind they have Aubameyang and hopefully won’t lose him.

"But Lacazette's frustrations are out there about not playing, he could go elsewhere. If you had Aubameyang on the left and a big physical presence through the middle, that would make sense to me.

"I'm sure there are other options there for Arteta, but this guy… Arsenal sides through the years have been a bit soft, this guy’s not soft.

"He’s a physical player who scores goals in the Premier League. I’d have him in a heartbeat and I think Arteta would as well.

"He’s got a bit extra, he scores goals and he’s a winner. Good player."

The big IFAB change

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has agreed to draw up protocols for substitution trials to address concussion incidents.

This decision which could eventually impact Premier League clubs including Arsenal has been made following feedback from the recent meeting of the Concussion Expert Group (CEG).

IFAB have agreed that they will now undertake more research on the matter before proposing potential changes to the Laws of the Game moving forward.
