The Arsenal morning headlines as Emirates Stadium work continues, potential Thomas Partey blow

Here are the Arsenal morning headlines for Saturday, 21st March.

Work continues on Emirates Stadium

There may not be any Premier League football until at least April 30th, but that hasn't stopped the groundmen at the Emirates Stadium working hard to ensure that the pitch is kept in pristine condition ahead of its return.

Should the league return as planned, then Arsenal will be in action at home when they face runaway league leaders Liverpool at the Emirates on May 2.

But it's not just the stadium that is being maintained, the Gunners' training ground London Colony is also being kept in top condition.

Orkan Kocku latest

The unexpected spare time could give Mikel Arteta and his back room staff some extra time to finalise and start working on their plans ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have been linked with a lot of players in recent weeks as Arteta looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

One of them names is midfielder Orkan Kocku, and football.london understand that Arsenal are interested in the player.

So what is the latest? Take a look here.

Thomas Partey blow

Thomas Partey is another player who has been linked with a summer move to the Emirates Stadium. However, Arsenal have received a blow to their hopes of landing the Atletico Madrid man if reports are to be believed.

Goal report that the Spanish side are looking to extend the player's contract by a further two seasons which will in return raise the release clause from £47 million to £93 million.

The report states that all parties are open to holding talks over a new deal and that the La Liga club are hopeful a deal can be reached soon.

The matchday institutions at risk

It is an unprecedented time for football as the coronavirus pandemic continues to have an affect on the sport.

The Premier League announced on Thursday the extension to the suspension of football from April 4 to April 30.

But it's not just fans who are missing out because of the postponement of games.

Institutions that are part of the matchday rituals and traditions are also being hit, including the famous Piebury corner.
