The Arsenal morning headlines as Arteta talks future plans and transfer target signs new deal

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Sunday, February 23rd.

Gunners fear Martinelli exit

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are fearing that the Brazilian youngster could leave after just one year at the club, should they not qualify for European football next season.

It is claimed that Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have a firm interest in Martinelli and could offer the 18-year-old Champions League football next season, which would be hard to turn down for the player.

The report states that there is growing concern at the Emirates Stadium that a lack of Champions League football will make it harder to hold onto their stars such as Martinelli.

Transfer target signs new contract

Arsenal were linked with a January move for Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck, but it looks as if the Scotsman will stay at Bramall Lane for the foreseeable future.

As announced by the Blades, Fleck has signed a new contract until 2023.

"It is an amazing club. It is one that I always wanted to be part of going forward. I've really enjoyed my time here since day one, so I didn't see any reason why I wouldn't want to be here at what is a really exciting time for the club," the midfielder said upon the announcement.

"We have been very successful since the manager came in. Everyone has worked hard and had a good time here; it has been a great club to come to and I am delighted to be extending my stay."

Fans' starting XI

Ahead of the game against Everton this afternoon, fans have been having their say on who they would like to see Mikel Arteta named in the starting lineup for the match.

And Gunners' fans would like to see Alexandre Lacazette rewarded for his two goals in two games by returning to a Premier League starting XI at the expense of young striker Eddie Nketiah.

Arteta on plans for the future

The Arsenal boss has made an impact since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

Improved performances have bought improved results, with the Gunners yet to lose a game since the start of the year. But the Spaniard insists there is still a long way to go if his plans are going to be met.

Injury news ahead of Everton

Ahead of the game against the Toffees, Arsenal have provided the latest injury update from the Emirates Stadium.

Lucas Torreira and Mesut Ozil both missed the midweek clash against Olympiacos, Torreria due to illness and Ozil due to his wife giving birth. However, both will be back available for the game against Everton this afternoon.

Hector Bellerin was left out of the squad in Greece and will be assessed ahead of the game as will Sokratis who sustained an injury to his right knee during the game against Olympiacos.
