The Arsenal, Man City and Brentford men who could form Mikel Arteta's six-man coaching team

Mikel Arteta is closing in on a return to the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal's search for Unai Emery's replacement is seemingly over.

The former midfielder has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal with the club, having been assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City for the last three and a half seasons.

In that time his reputation as a coach has grown significantly, and he was close to a return to Arsenal in 2018, before the club opted for the more experienced Unai Emery.

It seems that Arteta will now be in charge at the Emirates with the Spaniard reportedly ready to take his first training session at Arsenal on Monday. An announcement over his appointment expected imminently.

But, who could join the new man at the Emirates Stadium as part of his coaching staff? Take a look to find out.

Rodolfo Borrell

The Mirror claim that Arteta will turn to fellow assistant manager at the Etihad Stadium Rodolfo Borrell.

The Spaniard has a reputation for nurturing some of the biggest names in football while at Barcelona. Names he coached during his time at the club include: Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas and Andreas Iniesta.

The 48-year-old has also worked at Liverpool as Technical Director and Head of Coaching, before joining City in 2016 alongside Arteta.

Sam Fagbeni

The Daily Mail report that Arsenal are also targeting Manchester City's Sam Fagbeni, who is Head of Youth Scouting Strategy in the south.

The 25-year-old has previously worked at the Emirates Stadium, having been a video scout for Arsenal.

He was responsible for the signing of highly rated youngsters Sam Edozie, Darko Gyabi, Josh Wilson-Eshbrand and Ben Knight.

Domenec Torrent

The Daily Mail claim that the Spaniard is another name being considered by Arteta to join him as assistant manager at Arsenal.

Torrent left Manchester City in 2018 to replace Patrick Vieira at MLS side New York City FC. He is currently out of work, so could be an easy option for Arsenal.

Although, reports claim that the former assistant manager is not looking to become an assistant again, so it may take some persuading for Torrent to arrive at the Emirates Stadium.

Iñaki Caña Pavon

Brentford goalkeeping coach Pavon has been targeted by Arteta, according to reports. Iñaki joined Brentford from Danish side FC Nordsjælland in summer 2018.

He has also worked at a collection of Spanish clubs and in the academy of Barcelona, where he started as a player. Iñaki played for Barcelona C before moving in to coaching, having come through the ranks at the Catalan giants.

The coach is likely to work alongside Sal Bibbo with the club's goalkeepers.

Freddie Ljungberg

Currently interim manger at Arsenal, the Swede is likely to be included in the backroom staff at the Emirates Stadium once the appointment of Arteta has been confirmed.

The former player is likely to continue to be in charge for the trip to Goodison Park as the new man in charge looks on from the stands.

Per Mertesacker

Mertesacker has been included in Ljungberg's first team staff while he has been in interim charge, and could keep a role under Arteta.
