The Arsenal evening headlines as Shkodran Mustafi is praised and new £140m-rated transfer target

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Friday, February 21.

Ian Wright praises Shkodran Mustafi

The German defender has really come into his own in recent weeks. Since the 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, he's hardly put a foot wrong and started the 1-0 win over Olympiacos on Thursday night.

Once again the Gunners kept a clean sheet and once again Shkodran Mustafi played his part.

So much so that he's been praised by none other than Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

After the game, the official club Instagram account posted a picture of Mustafi, with the caption: 'Let's hear it for Musti.'

Former Arsenal striker Wright posted a reply, saying: 'Fantastic tonight, @shkodranmustafi.'

Gary Lineker loved what the Arsenal players did vs Olympiacos

Gary Lineker has taken to social media and praised the Arsenal's players.

Before kick-off against Olympiacos, the Gunners squad were spotted making a kind-hearted gesture to a mascot and it certainly made one young fan's day.

As the teams went for their traditional pre-match handshakes, the mascots left the pitch, but one young fan stayed on the field, seemingly unaware of what where he was supposed to go.

But the Arsenal team leapt into action, encouraging the youngster to join them for their official team photo ahead of the game.

The youngster's arrival left big smiles on the faces of Joe Willock, Gabriel Martinelli and Matteo Guendouzi, before the mascot eventually made his way off the pitch and the game could finally get underway.

The gesture prompted Match of the Day presenter Lineker to share the video, with a simple caption of: 'Lovely'.

Ancelotti delivers Arteta verdict

Arsenal's improvement under Mikel Arteta is 'clear', according to Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti.

The Toffees side are two points above the Gunners in the Premier League table and four off fifth place - which could be enough for Champions League qualification if Manchester City's ban is upheld.

And the two teams meet at the Emirates on Sunday.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti believes that Arteta has performed an impressive job since replacing Unai Emery at Arsenal.

"Arsenal have improved a lot, they are playing better," he said.

"We were in the stand when Arsenal played here. The improvement (since then) is clear."

New £140m  transfer target

The summer window is still a few months away from opening, but Arsenal are being linked with midfield reinforcements.

Valencia's Carlos Soler is the latest name being tipped to join Arteta's revolution at the Emirates Stadium, although the Mirror claim he has a £140m buy-out clause in his contract at the Mestalla.

Funds are expected to be tight this summer for the Gunners and much is reportedly set to depend on whether Los Che will be tempted to cash in on the 23-year-old for a much lower fee.
