What does this data actually mean?

The data is based on the rolling seven-day average between December 7 and December 13.

It is really important to bear in mind that this data is very volatile because it covers such small areas.

Where an area has a very small population, even one positive case can push up the cases per 100,000 significantly.

On Thursday, there was also a massive increase in cases following a technical problem in which thousands of samples processed in lighthouse laboratories were not included.

There remains concern in the city and across Wales about rates of Covid-19.

Recently it was reported that hospitals in Swansea Bay were postponing 'non-emergency' appointments because of soaring coronavirus cases.

And at a local level, speaking this week from Clydach, which together with the Mawr area has the highest coronavirus rate in the city, ward councillor Gordon Walker said people in the area were "very scared"

He called the current situation "a sad state of affairs".
