The areas of Newport with Covid infection rates that are among the highest in south Wales

The city of Newport is seeing pockets of very high Covid rates compared to other parts of south Wales.

The highest areas of infecting in Wales remain in the north east of Wales where Conwy, Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire make up most of the highest areas for Covid-19 cases. This has been the case throughout much of the third wave of the pandemic.

However there are actually five areas of Newport which are also showing an infection rate above 200.

These areas reflect places with an average of 7,000 people, called middle super output areas (MSOA).

In practice this means there are statistics for areas like Canton in Cardiff, Morriston in Swansea, and Porth in Rhondda.

The areas in Newport with the highest rates are:

  • Lliswerry & Uskmouth 302.6
  • Lawrence Hill 276.1
  • Maindee 262.9
  • Ringland 261
  • Langstone & Llanwern 214.7
