The area Spurs impressed in during Brighton win that they must do on a consistent basis

Tottenham bounced back from a disappointing showing against Chelsea last Sunday by recording a 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Boxing Day.

With the Blues stretching their lead over Spurs to six points following their 2-0 victory in N17, Jose Mourinho's side closed the gap back to three after their west London rivals slipped to a surprise home defeat against Southampton.

Things didn't look very promising for the Lilywhites against the Seagulls as they trailed at the break following Adam Webster's goal, but they did turn things around after the restart courtesy of strikes from Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

The former levelled things up in the 53rd minute with a low strike and he praised the team's second-half performance as they registered three vital points in the race for the top four.

However, the England captain believes the team's work off the ball hasn't been there a number of times so far this campaign, although he did state that it was much better in the second half.

"We came out in the second half with a lot more energy, a lot more fight, a lot more passion," he told the club's official website. "Getting the early goal helped and then momentum swung our way. We did well to get the second and it was a big shift to see the game out.

"We’ve quality but in some games this season we haven’t quite been there in terms of off the ball, pressing, working hard in the right way together, in the right shape.

"We did that well in the second half and they didn’t create too many chances because they couldn’t really get out of their half.

"It was one of those games... a few days after you lose in a big game, it’s important to bounce back and no matter how you get it done, three points was most important.

"We would have liked to have played a bit better and scored a few more goals but that’s the Premier League, you play tough teams every game and we’ve a busy schedule, so it was important to start on Boxing Day with a win."

Spurs are back in action on Saturday with a trip to Norwich City, before facing Southampton at St Mary's on New Year's Day.
