The Apprentice 2019 candidate Lewis Ellis is internet prankster who took a dip in the Trafford Centre pool

A candidate on The Apprentice is an internet prankster who once took a dip in the Trafford Centre’s pool.

Lewis Ellis, from Haslingden, may have branded himself as a digital marketing project manager for the BBC One programme - but it seems as well as working hard, he also likes to play hard.

The 28-year-old budding entrepreneur once took a paddle in the pool, which is situated in the food court, wearing just a life-jacket, swimming trunks and diving goggles.

While the video doesn’t appear on his YouTube channel, LostBoyLewis, the Manchester Evening News covered the story in 2016 .

In the footage, Lewis can be seen getting into the shallow water in the Orient, before being ordered out by security and escorted out of the building.

He said at the time: “We have comedians in London and further down south, all over America, all over Canada vlogging and really getting the area noticed. I want to do the same but in a comedic way which would hopefully generate smiles along the way.

“When I get older I know I’m going to look back and smile. I think that’s what life is about. All in all it was such a fun day and hopefully people are going to smile, albeit think I’m an idiot.”

The self-styled 'maverick', who doesn't like to follow the rules, says his competitiveness and determination will see him through the gruelling process on The Apprentice.

"I may not be the smartest guy in the room, but I’ll sure as hell work harder," he said.

Lewis will be joined by 15 other wannabe entrepreneurs in the new series of the Alan Sugar-fronted series, where episode one will see the candidates whisked off to South Africa for the first task.

They will all compete to be selected as Alan Sugar's business partner and scoop a £250,000 cash injection into their company.

If Lewis is successful, he plans to use his investment money for a premium travel brand for young professionals.

The Apprentice begins on Wednesday, October 2 on BBC One at 9pm.

The Apprentice You’re Fired will follow on BBC Two.
