The Apartment Edinburgh: Popular restaurant is closing its doors for good after 20 years

The Apartment Restaurant in Edinburgh has announced it is permanently closing after two decades.

The popular Bruntsfield eatery, which opened its doors in 1999, said that it was shutting its doors in a statement today.

The well-loved restaurant had capacity for 80 diners and was a hit with visitors and locals alike.

A post on The Apartment's website blamed government guidelines for their decision to stop trading and thanked customers for their support in the past.

"We are sorry to inform you The Apartment is closed for business," the owners wrote.

"Due to the government's guidelines, we have made the decision to cease trading.

"Thank you for the support over the years."

The Apartment is just the latest in a string of Edinburgh businesses that have been forced to close down in the wake of the coronavirus.

The news comes after the Hendersons group of vegetarian and vegan restaurants announced they also won't reopen after lockdown.

We tried to contact the owners to find out if the Apartment Bistro in Canongate, which is run by the same owners, is also closed for business, we will update this story when we hear back.
