The Antonio Conte Celtic scouting mission over Fraser Forster that led to 'fantastic' Spurs signing

Antonio Conte insists Fraser Forster's performances at the top level for Celtic showed him what kind of player the goalkeeper was.

The Tottenham Hotspur boss has called upon the former England international in recent weeks after number one stopper Hugo Lloris was ruled out with a knee injury sustained in a 1-0 English Premier League win over Manchester City in February. Since then Forster has kept three clean sheets in the last five games as Spurs look to cement their European status for next season.

And Italian coach Conte believes the 35-year-old was a 'fantastic' signing and that watching him up close for the Parkhead side in 2013 against Juventus in the Champions League was a sign of things to come.

He said: "For sure Fraser is playing very well. He's shown to be a reliable player. He's showing to be a really good guy.

"I remembered him well from in the Champions League when we played Celtic with Juventus. He impressed me and the way to be a keeper.

"At the same time, he's a really good person, a positive person for this dressing room. I think it was a fantastic signing for the club and he's showing he deserves credit."
