The Anthony Barr era in Minnesota is over

Anthony Barr will not be returning to the Vikings.

Per multiple reports, Barr is expected to sign with the New York Jets.

Really, this is a move we saw coming all along. Not necessarily Barr signing with the Jets specifically, but Barr not returning to the Vikings.

The Vikings extended everyone but Barr last season, and there was a reason why. Barr was prone to coast and at times, it really seemed like he had an on off switch.

With that being said, this is a loss for the Vikings. As inconsistent as Barr was at times, you can’t ignore the fact that he was a four-time Pro Bowler and at times, looked like one of the best defensive players in the league.

It sounds like he’ll be making the move from linebacker to edge in New York. Last season, Barr ranked as the league’s 26th linebacker per Pro Football Focus.

Who will replace Barr? On the roster, Eric Wilson is an option. We could also see the Vikings take someone like Devin Bush in the first round of the 2019 draft.

Barr spent the last five seasons in Minnesota after the Vikings drafted him ninth overall in 2014.
