The Ange Postecoglou Celtic stumbling block solution Rangers used with Steven Gerrard

Celtic can get around the Ange Postecoglou coaching licence stumbling block by following Rangers ’ example.

The Australian is the new favourite to land the job after a move for Eddie Howe collapsed.

However, he doesn’t hold the necessary A and B licences, or has started on the most advanced course yet.

UEFA rules stipulate those as requirements to manage in any of their top flight leagues.

However, Rangers found a workaround to the same issue when Steven Gerrard was appointed back in the summer of 2018.

Coach Michael Beale held his UEFA pro licence which meant Gerrard could take the reins at Ibrox, although he was also given dispensation as he’d started working towards his own.

And Barry Ferguson is sure Celtic will find a solution if they really want Postecoglou as their new manager,

He told Go Radio: “There's ways around the coaching badges.

“You can appoint somebody on your staff who has the Pro License, what you need to manage at the elite level.

“He could appoint somebody on his coaching staff and then enroll on the Pro License, and then it takes 12 to 18 months. I think it happened at Rangers with Steven Gerrard.

“He only had his B and A License, he had to enroll and Michael Beale had his Pro License.

So there's ways around that - that's not going to be a stumbling block.”
