Hidden along an unassuming side street in the heart of Scotland's capital, this wild west "ghost town" was originally constructed as an advertising gimmick, but is now one of Edinburgh's "strangest" attractions.
The "American-style" town in Morningside, which was once used by the Southwestern Furniture Company, continues to impress despite being a "dilapidated and worn-out facade".
Those coming here will half-expect to hear the clanging of cowboys’ spurs against the pavement and ghostly whispers echoing from the cantina.

According to Atlas Obscura, the street's facade was designed by Michael Faulkner, with some help from Euro Disney engineers.
This was meant to cover the exterior of the old cinema where the furniture company was located.
The company has since gone out of business, giving the street a "ghost town-like atmosphere".
The western decor now conceals artist studios, galleries, and apartment storefronts, while the cantina’s door functions as the Morningside Library's fire exit.
In 2023, a major discovery was made here regarding a series of stone carvings outside a mechanical repair shop.

It was found that these sculptures once belonged to the ancient Scottish church located off the Royal Mile.
The "ghost town" has long attracted curious visitors, with users on Tripadvisor giving the Edinburgh location a 3.3/5 out of 29 reviews.

"You can find here a saloon, a jail, a cantina and stables. This Wild West facade was built in 1995-96 by a furniture store owner. It’s a bit run-down now, but it's definitely worth taking a few minutes to visit if you're in the area."
