Alton Towers has many job vacancies open for applications now, with roles in a broad range of departments including entertainment, customer service and finance. Since opening as a theme park in 1980, Alton Towers has been open each summer season and cemented its position as one of the UK’s most popular attractions.

Situated on more than 500 acres of Staffordshire countryside, the Alton Towers Resort offers five themed hotels and more than 40 rides and attractions, including the renowned Nemesis and Oblivion rollercoasters. Around 1.8m people visited the resort in 2021, according to market and consumer data platform Statista.

Resort operator Merlin Entertainments has a variety of vacancies listed on its jobs website. So, if you fancy working at one of the UK’s most beloved theme parks, here are some of the roles you can apply for now:

Ride Host

There is an exciting opportunity to spend time by the tracks as an Alton Towers Ride Host.

Responsibilities within this role include:

  • Delivering memorable experiences for guests.
  • Helping with the operation of rides and attractions.
  • The safety and enjoyment of any guests on the ride.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and our strict safety policies.

The ideal candidate will understand the importance of delivering exceptional customer service and have experience working in a fast-paced environment.

This role can be full-time, part-time, or fixed-term until November 2023.

Entertainments Scenic Construction and Theming Specialist

The resort is seeking a new team member who will be responsible for the sets and props around the site.

Responsibilities within this role include:

  • The construction and maintenance of sets and props for all resort entertainment.
  • Ensuring all work undertaken, workshops, storage venues, installations/de-rigs and entertainments areas are run and maintained safely, in accordance with codes, best practice, legislation and guidelines.
  • Ensuring Health and Safety procedures and legislation are followed at all times.
  • Liaising closely with other members of the team to ensure that creative vision is realised and maintained at all times.

The ideal candidate will have strong practical knowledge of scenic carpentry, prop making and scenic art, and the materials/techniques associated with these specialisms. A good understanding of health and safety in this particular industry is also essential.

This is a permanent role based on 37.5 hours a week – 30 hours min guaranteed – and will include, on a rota basis, weekends, shift work and bank holidays as required.

Entertainments Performer

Alton Towers is looking for versatile performers to join its Entertainments Team, performing in live street theatre, presenting game shows at the hotels or performing at unique events.

The performance roles on offer include:

  • CBeebies Costume Animators/ Presenters – skilled costume animators and presenters with dance ability to perform on the Show Team.
  • Actors/Puppeteers in CBeebies – roles within the interactive theatrical attractions and bringing to life a variety of popular characters from screen to stage.
  • Actors and Street Performers – actors and Improvisors with great comic timing to feature in street theatre.
  • Actors for Alton Towers Dungeon – to bring to life the gripping and spine-chilling stories from Alton Towers dark and dangerous history.

Auditions are scheduled throughout the year and once screened candidates will be invited to attend.

Hotel Receptionist

Alton Towers is looking to a fill a crucial customer facing role on its Reception team, alternating between the resort’s five hotels.

Responsibilities within this role include:

  • Taking ownership of any guest issues.
  • Cash and key handling.
  • Ensuring relevant guest information gets passed to the correct department.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

This role can be full-time, part-time, or fixed-term, with weekend and bank holiday working when required.

Head of Guest Excellence

The theme park has an exciting opportunity to join as its Head of Guest Excellence, reporting directly into the Divisional Director and sitting as part of the Leadership Team.

Duties within this role include.

  • Supporting the management team in the delivery of the required ‘Memorable Experience’ for every guest – and consequently hitting KPI targets.
  • Overseeing touch-screen research, feedback processes and Mystery Visit Programme, and communicating the key data to management and beyond.
  • Developing and implementing attraction-wide quality standard and customer service strategies.
  • Continually reviewing all key quality measures and tools to ensure they are relevant to the maximisation of guest experience while reporting information to leadership teams and supervisors daily.
  • Monitoring the guest experience across the attraction and driving actions to ensure all attractions consistently achieve specific customer and Mystery Visitor feedback targets.
  • Monitoring ride/show/display usage and availability, production of related technical and operational stats.
  • Overseeing the complaint process to ensure the need for any off-site escalation is eliminated.

Lifeguard

Alton Towers has a vacancy in the crucial role of lifeguard, to ensure everyone can use the Waterpark safely and that they have access to everything they need to enjoy their visit.

Duties within this role include:

  • Providing excellent customer care to people of all ages.
  • Supervising activities
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the pool area.
  • Ensuring the safe handling and set up of pool equipment.
  • When needed, helping to save lives.

The ideal candidate will be safety conscious, vigilant, and able to deal with pressurised situations. Strong swimming skills are also essential.

The employer will pay for a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (Royal Life Saving Society) if candidates are not already qualified with a guaranteed job at the end of training.

This is a full-time or part-time role with flexible working hours available.

Guest Excellence Host – Call Centre Advisor

The resort is recruiting Call Centre Hosts to join its Alton Hub to help deliver excellent customer service through phone calls, social media, live chat, emails and review sites.

Duties within this role include:

  • Responding to pre-visit enquires and post-visit feedback via all platforms to the highest quality and in a timely manner.
  • Taking ownership of feedback and suggesting ideas to enhance the guest journey.
  • Delivering personalised and memorable experiences to guests.
  • Working in a fast-paced call centre environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a customer-focused role or have a passion for guest service. Basic computer skills are also essential.

Assistant Finance Business Partner

Alton Towers is recruiting a new member of its finance team to report into the Finance Business Partner.

Duties within this role include:

  • Assisting with key functional stakeholders including profit and loss support with key business decisions on pricing, yield, margins, operating costs and profitability.
  • Providing overall financial insights into business drivers to deliver and develop the site’s strategic objectives and annual budget.
  • Being accountable for partnering with the Finance Hub to ensure processes reflect accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Providing variance analysis and financial modelling to drive business decisions.
  • Facilitating the annual budget cycle by owning all template building and modelling.

The ideal candidate will be a part-qualified accountant with good technical skills and experience in financial analysis and control. Some business partnering experience or experience partnering non-financial stakeholders would be advantageous, as would advanced Excel skills, an aptitude for learning systems quickly and VBA and Access skills.

Hotel Porter

Alton Towers is seeking a Hotel Porter to be an enthusiastic and helpful ambassador for the resort, a role essential to making a great first impression with the guests.

Duties within this role include:

  • Answering questions on everything from the geographical layout of the resort to the latest promotions.
  • Taking responsibility for the safe handling of guest property and delivering it to their rooms.
  • Being on hand for any additional help guests may need during their stay.
