The alternative Europe Rangers and Celtic would face if the Super League is bulldozed through

The Super League is set to bring change right across the face of European football.

The new offshoot division will rival the Champions League, taking 15-20 of its richest clubs and pitting them against one another outside the confines of UEFA.

Super League chairman Florentino Perez wants to launch the new competition as soon as next season.

And if he gets his way, it will come just in time for Rangers and Celtic to charge into a Champions League like never before.

Scotland has two qualifying spots for Europe's top competition next season and the Glasgow rivals might be licking their lips at a severely weakened tournament that gives them a chance of a sustained European run.

Among those who won't be involved are the Premier League's big six. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham have been named among the Super League's 'founding members.'

Then there are three from Spain and three from Italy - Barcelona, Atletico, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter and Juventus complete the 12 clubs already announced.

Super League chiefs want to take that number up to an initial 15 but Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and PSG are reluctant to sign up.

For the three countries with clubs already announced, it means Champions League spots will likely be distributed to some of the lower placed teams who are not invited to the Super League party.

On current standings, Leicester, West Ham, Everton and Leeds would take England's four spots.

In Spain, Sevilla, Villarreal, Real Betis and Real Sociedad would all qualify, while Italy's Atalanta, Napoli and Lazio would go straight in.

If Celtic and Rangers were to each qualify, they would likely end up in the same pot since their coefficient points totals are similar.

But they could now be drawn in the same group due to UEFA restrictions.

So how could the pots look if Scotland's representatives go all the way?

Potential Champions League group stage

Pot 1 : Bayern Munich, Roma, Sevilla, Leicester, Atalanta, Lille, Zenit, Sporting CP

Pot 2 : PSG, Ajax, Shakhtar, RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg, Villarreal, Napoli, Dynamo Kyiv

Pot 3 : Besiktas, Dynamo Kyiv, Olympiacos, Lazio, Celtic , Lokomotiv Moscow, Club Brugge, Rangers

Pot 4 : Spartak Moscow, Real Betis, FC Midtjylland, Everton, Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg, West Ham, Leeds
