One of the 66 radio telescope antennas which make up the The Atacama Large Millimetre/Sub-millimetre Array (Alma) project, located on the Chajnantor plateau of the Atacama Desert, 5,000 metres above sea level in the Chilean Andes. The project, otherwise known as the European Southern Observatory, cost €1bn and involved a collaboration between 20 countries
