The air fryer potato hack to make tasty crisps from peelings with zero waste

Air fryers have taken over British homes and continue to grow in popularity.

The device, which cooks by circulating air faster than a standard oven, can take on nearly any food, including potatoes. From roasties, to jackets to chips, the appliance can cook the vegetable in a number of tasty ways.

In the latest snack hack, air fryers are now being used to turn potato peelings into tasty crisps, leaving no food waste behind.

Shared in a TikTok video by recipe profile @thisisplanetfood, the simple hack takes 10 minutes and the only ingredient that needs prepping are the peelings.

To make the air fryer crisps, you should:

  • First, wash and dry your potato peelings
  • Add 2 tsp smoked paprika, 1 tsp onion granules, 1 tsp garlic granules, 1 tsp oregano, ½ tsp salt (can add more) and ½ tsp pepper to your potatoes
  • Drizzle with olive oil and toss together with your hands
  • Air fry for approximately 10 minutes

  • Enjoy them with the sauce of your choice

The recipe received a mixed reaction from viewers, as some worried how the peelings might taste, with one questioning: "I peel them for a reason. Why would I want to cook the peel?"

But the profile was quick to reassure skeptics, responding: "Trust us, they taste amazing when you season and cook them!!"

Others who have already tried the hack confirmed this. "OMG I did this yesterday they are elite", exclaimed one viewer. Another suggested this can be used on more than potatoes, saying: "You can also do it with other veg peelings there are lush."

If you don't have an air fryer, you can also get similar results by using a standard oven, cooking the potatoes at 200C for five minutes.
