'The agent can get to f***' - Darragh MacAnthony hits out after player hands in transfer request

Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony has hit out at an agent after one of his players handed in a transfer request.

Tom Barclay, reporter at the Sun claims that the player in question is Siriki Demble.

He tweeted: "I'm told Siriki Dembele has handed in a transfer request at Peterborough."

If Dembele were to move on, it would certainly benefit clubs around them if they lost a player of his ability. Posh however, do have a reputation of unearthing gems.

The winger, who can also operate up front, signed for Posh on a three-year-deal in 2018 for an undisclosed fee from Grimsby Town.

Darren Ferguson's side sit in fifth place, three points ahead of the Black Cats having played the same amount of games.

Like Sunderland, Posh have also been fighting against a coronavirus outbreak in recent weeks and have not played since their 1-1 draw with MK Dons.

Speaking on his Instagram account, MacAnthony did not reveal the player in question but said: "So we've been contracted by various outlets today about a transfer request that came into us. Which I woke up to yesterday.

"This is just an agent playing games. This is what they do. Unfortunately, players always go for it and I don't know why they do.

"Yes a player asked for a transfer request and I didn't expect it. I certainly didn't expect it over the weekend or whenever we got it. It is what it is. We get on with it.

"Every player in League One is for sale, but unless we get the right offer no players go anywhere. That's just the way it is.

"We've a promotion to win, we need to get on with it. The player needs to be professional and get on with it.

"The agent needs to get to f***. That's my view on the transfer request.

"Lets get back to playing football that's all that's important right now. Stay safe everyone."
