LONG DAY IN THE SADDLE ...

Mark Cavendish looks to achieve a childhood dream by finishing with a win on the Via Roma in the Milan-San Remo (Eurosport, 1.30pm). Cavendish won the 108-year-old one-day race in 2009 – at 23, the youngest rider to do so since Eddy Merckx - and the classic finish on Via Roma has been restored for the first time since 2007. “I know, all the greatest wins have been on the Via Roma,” he said. “This finish is the San Remo I dreamed of when I was a kid.” But he will have his work cut out. At 299km it is the longest one-day race on the UCI tour with around seven hours in the saddle but Cavendish’s early seaosn form is strong, he has wins in Argentina, Dubai, Spain and recently at the Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne.

TROPHY FINAL ...

The big one for Walsall on Sunday as the club goes to Wembley for the first time in their 127-year history to contest the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final with Bristol City (Sky Sports 3, 3.30pm). The Saddlers have earned their day out – beating Preston (second in League One, to Walsall’s mid-table) in the Northern Area final – but now face a big task. Bristol City lead League One, well ahead of Preston and are looking for their third Trophy. Fans expect a thriller – 70,000 tickets have been sold and, with the exception of El Clásico, it is expected to be the best-attended game in Europe this weekend.

SIX NATIONS REWIND ...

The BBC marks the end of this year’s Six Nations with a more than welcome look back at the tournament’s rich history in Six Nations Greatest Moments (Today, BBC2, 7pm). The programme takes a look at some classic matches from the corporation’s archive of a sport it has resolutely held on to in the face of growing competition and, through a stellar list of talking heads, also examines some of the behind-the-scenes stories from over the years. Guests include Jonny Wilkinson, Brian O’Driscoll, Gavin and Scott Hastings, Bill Beaumont, Gareth Edwards, Jonathan Davies and Martin Johnson.
