Nov. 01--The skies cleared on the morning after Southern California's rainy Halloween, creating ideal conditions for some spectacular rainbows.
Ryan Kittell, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Oxnard, explained why so many people started their day rainbow-spotting.
"You definitely need sun and the conditions we had this morning would do that," Kittell said.
"People look to the West and the sun is coming from the East and hitting the raindrops," he explained. "The light goes into each droplet and that's when it acts like a prism and comes out with color, almost like a mirror effect. That's why you need the sun behind you."
