Chelsea were one of the more quieter teams during the January transfer window.
Despite winning the appeal to have their transfer ban reduced, the Blues did not make a single signing last month which means Frank Lampard must get top-four with the squad he started the season with.
But new signings are on the way.
According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, a €45millon (£37m) deal has been reached in principle between the Blues and Ajax for the transfer of attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech in the summer.
The playmaker is no stranger to transfer speculation having been linked with a move to the Premier League for the best part of 2019 after his impressive performances helped Ajax reach last season's Champions League semi-final.
And the west London outfit got a first-hand experience of Ziyech at his best earlier in the campaign.
The 26-year-old also stood out in the 4-4 Champions League group phase draw against Chelsea in November at Stamford Bridge, which has put him firmly on the radar of Lampard's side.
However, should the Blues manage to sign Ziyech in the summer, they face losing him at some point in 2021. This is because of next year's Africa Cup of Nations tournament is being moved back to its winter date.
The tournament was moved to the summer months following a decision by their executive committee in 2017, but after just one competition, it will now return to its original January-February format.
One of the reasons for the change is the temperature and weather both being more favourable in the opening two months of the year.
"We have reviewed the period of the competition as requested by the Cameroonian party due to unfavourable climatic conditions during the period initially slated," Caf's deputy general secretary Tony Baffoe read from a statement.
"After listening to the various arguments and viewpoints, and in particular from the Cameroonian meteorological authorities, the coaches and players; the representatives of the Afcon organising committee, which received the mandate from Caf Executive Committee to take the decision, has granted this request.
"A detailed report shall be presented to the members of the Executive Committee during its next session on 6 February."
This is something for the Blues to keep in mind if reports that Ziyech is a top priority for the summer transfer window are true.
