The actual roads being closed around Bristol as Google makes mistake

Motorists have been advised the roads around Ashton Court are only closed from the evening for the Bristol Balloon Fiesta.

People living close to the estate have been warned to expect travel delays and road closures during the week of the event.

But Google is currently showing the roads around Ashton Court are closed 24 hours a day and traffic experts are warning people these are wrong.

Travel West England confirmed on Twitter the roads are only close during the evening until midnight.

The post read: "Please be advised Google is stating that roads around Ashton Court are closed 24 hours a day.

"This is incorrect. Roads only close from later this evening until midnight so you can still travel throughout the area during the day."

In other balloon fiesta news, both of the mass ascents scheduled for today (August 9) have been cancelled due to wet and windy weather.

It comes after Thursday evening's ascent was also cancelled, forcing the event organisers to have an early morning ascent for the first time in the event's history.

Fears remain that Saturday will also be a washout with the forecast reporting a chance of heavy rain throughout the day.
